comfort optionsDoes the thought of an upcoming dental visit cause you anxiety? Have you ever avoided dental cleanings or routine dental care due to fear? Apprehension towards dental treatment is a fairly common phobia; fortunately we have a number of stress reducing options to make your visits comfortable. Please feel open to discuss any special needs or concerns you may have regarding your care.

We find that with the special care we are able to give patients that many, especially our very busy patients, elect to have longer comfortable visits rather than repetitive short choppy visits experienced in other offices.

For the most comfortable and pleasant visit you have ever experienced, we offer:

Caring understanding staff

Nothing else matters if you don’t have this in your favor! We will never make a patient feel embarrassed about their dental needs, and seek to understand and treat patients as special individuals, Dr. Gibbs and his Staff have many years of experience in caring for the specials needs and concerns of our more fearful friends. We will do everything to “tailor” the visit your needs and concerns–even if that means that “we just sit and talk ” about your concerns!

Intravenous Sedation

I.V. sedation is the most advanced sedative technique for the comprehensive control of pain and anxiety in dentistry. Intravenous sedation produces a profound state of relaxation. Dr. Gibbs is able to carefully control the amount of sedation required and adjust the level to the individual needs of the patient. In most cases, amnesia is produced and patients will not remember the procedures performed. The intravenous sedation method represents superior pain control.

Less than 2% of general dentists in Illinois have the special training, permit, and licensing issued by the Board of Dental Examiners to perform this advanced sedative technique. Dr. Gibbs has been trained and certified in use of oral (pill) and also intravenous (IV) sedation. He is an early member of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation and a member of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. Dr, Gibbs has successfully completed dental care and smile makeovers for hundreds of patients using these proven techniques.

Please feel open to talk to our caring and informed staff regarding this valuable option. It is now possible for you to have complete dental care done in total comfort!

Oral Sedation

Oral Sedation is one of the newest methods of anxiety control in dentistry. Taken in pill form, this sedation produces a very relaxed state for most patients. Recent developments in pharmacology have given dentistry oral drugs that produce a profound state of relaxation with a high degree of safety. This was not possible as little as ten years ago. The first pill is taken one hour before your appointment time; an additional pill is given in the office one hour before your dental treatment is started. This sedation technique is very well received by patients. Benefits of oral sedation include: more sedation is produced as compared to nitrous oxide, and most patients have no memory of the dental procedures performed.

Nitrous oxide (laughing gas)

This is used not to provide anesthesia per se, but to relax the patient during the procedure. The effect is a short-lasting intoxication, which wears off almost as soon as the air mask is taken off. We use individual, scented masks for comfort and cleanliness.

Wand Anesthesia

This is the newest option for delivery of local anesthetics. Instead of using the old “Civil War era” syringe that many dental patients agonize over, the Wand uses a computer microprocessor to regulate the flow rate, temperature, and pressure of the anesthetic. Result: comfortable anesthesia!

Needle-Free numbing

Have you ever had a painful dental cleaning or gum therapy? We now offer the newest needle free anesthetic delivery system.
